Therapeutic uses
Levodopa is a precursor of dopamine, and it is a commonly used drug name in the world. Different manufacturers have different trade names when they are listed on the market. Oral levodopa tablets are generally disintegrated and dissolved in the stomach, and then discharged to the duodenum, and then to the small intestine, where they are absorbed into the blood at the upper end of the small intestine. It is taken up by substantia nigra nerve cells or other nerve cells, and under the action of dopa decarboxylase, a carboxyl group is removed to become dopamine, thereby supplementing the dopamine in the brain and reducing the symptoms of Parkinson's disease.
