Therapeutic uses
Hydroxytyrosol, an active ingredient in olives, acts as a highly active antioxidant in the human body. Antioxidants are bioactive molecules that are found in many plants, but their activity varies. Hydroxytyrosol is regarded as one of the most powerful antioxidants and the market demand is increasing day by day. Its oxygen radical absorption capacity is about 4,500,000 μmol TE/100g: 10 times that of green tea, and more than 2 times that of CoQ10 and quercetin.
Hydroxytyrosol has anti-inflammatory, vasodilatory and antibacterial effects, can prevent atherosclerosis, and can reduce the incidence of certain cancers (such as breast, prostate, endometrium, digestive tract); Antioxidant activity and the effect of reducing the incidence of cancer, therefore have great promise of medical effect. Hydroxytyrosol, a tyrosol metabolite, is also found in olive oil to contain strong antioxidant properties.
